Sue's MND Story
Diagnosed with MND in April 2023, Sue lives with her partner Tom at Bribie Island and is a breast cancer survivor. She lost her Mum, Ruth to MND in 1985 and her brother, Ian passed from the disease in 2022. Her younger sister, Ruth was diagnosed with MND soon after Sue’s own diagnosis.
Sue’s symptoms are progressing and she told us ‘Now I can hardly walk and there’s something wrong with my hands.’ Tom added ‘A year ago she was working.’
Fortunately, thanks to our generous community, MND Queensland recently delivered a powered wheelchair to make community access a little easier for Sue. Tom said ‘That’s good because we'll be able to get down again to the Bribie Passage and go back to the beach.’
MND Queensland supports families impacted by MND, but without ongoing government funding, we’re completely reliant on self-generated funding and the generosity of our community to provide our services. Sue is very grateful for the support that our community has provided and said, ‘The allied health services and everything has been fantastic! Like Speech Therapy at MND Queensland.’
Watch out for our winter edition of The Cornflower with Sue's full story.
