The COVID-19 vaccination rollout has started and Phase 1b is due to start on Monday 22 March. Phase 1b includes all adults over the age of 70 and younger adults with an underlying medical condition including those with a disability. The Department of Health have confirmed that Motor Neurone Disease is one of the specified underlying medical conditions. Phase 1b also includes both formal and informal carers of people eligible in 1b.
Use this link to find out more about the vaccination rollout https://www.health.gov.au/. To schedule an appointment for your vaccine follow this link https://covid-vaccine.healthdirect.gov.au/eligibility. It will also show you your local GP’s and health centres.
If you book a vaccine appointment anywhere other than at your regular GP surgery, you will be required to provide evidence of your eligibility. Here is the guidance from the Dept of Health on how you can do that:
- MyHealth Record
- A referral from GP or treating specialist
- Alternative medical records, including:
- a printout of an individual’s medical history as recorded in their clinical records;
- a printout of an individual’s chronic disease care plan; a discharge summary from a hospital or other medical facility; or
- a valid script or medication prescribed to treat one or more of the relevant medical conditions
Where none of these are available, individuals may complete an Eligibility Declaration Form.
If you have any questions or concerns about the vaccines, please speak with your GP.
