Continuing to Care Through the Coronavirus Pandemic

Despite the challenges that COVID 19 is creating for all Australians, we at MND Queensland remain committed to providing ongoing supports and delivering those in whichever way our clients choose to receive them.

3 April 2020 - COVID-19 Update - Good News for MND Queensland and our Clients Regarding Home Visits

The Queensland Government have provided further clarification of acceptable reasons to leave home. They can be found by clicking here.

Based on these latest guidelines, we will be returning to home visits where a client wishes for it and both they (and members of their household) and the MND Queensland staff member can meet the minimum requirements to minimise risk i.e.

• Have not travelled overseas in the last 14 days
• Have not had contact with any confirmed cases of COVID-19
• Are not experiencing any flu like symptoms

All MND Queensland staff entering a client’s home will adhere to the following practices:

• Wear a face mask
• Avoid any physical contact (unless in the event of a medical emergency)
• Use sanitiser gel upon entering and leaving a client’s home
• Practice safe social distancing

While we recognise that changes in the number of confirmed cases in Queensland may result in further tightening of restrictions, we also believe strongly in a personal service and each client’s right to choose how they receive services. We’ll continue to keep you updated but for now, if you want an MND Advisor/Support Coordinator to come and visit you, please contact us on 07 3372 9004.

Our equipment hire service is still in full operation and we have no intention, or reason to believe, that this will change due to the essential nature of the equipment we provide.

For those that don’t currently use our service, please be aware that we offer a wide range of mobility equipment at lower cost than most other equipment providers. Usually this is on a weekly hire fee arrangement and for our clients over the age of 65 and those that do not have access to funding, equipment is provided for a one off fee that is very reasonable.

We have a range of Power wheelchairs, manual wheelchairs, shower chairs and commodes, hoists, electric beds, recliners, eye gaze devices and much more available.

If you wish to discuss our range, please call us on 07 3372 9004, look on our website or get in touch with your MND Advisor/Support Coordinator. You can also ask your Allied Health Professional to make a referral via our website.

MND Queensland recognises that feeling connected to others is vital during this time where social distancing and self-isolation are daily topics of conversation. Since we've had to cancel our face-to-face MND Support Groups, we are introducing Online MND Support Group Meetings where you can participate via Zoom using your computer and webcam, or by telephone. Click here for more information on these Online MND Support Group Meetings.

The Online MND Support Groups have been a success so far and we're going to be continuing this service. If you haven't received a Zoom invitation to participate, please contact us by calling 07 3372 9004 or email Leigh
