Continuing to Care Through the Coronavirus Pandemic

Despite the challenges that COVID 19 is creating for all Australians, we at MND Queensland remain committed to providing ongoing supports and delivering those in whichever way our clients choose to receive them.

Yesterday the Government announced new restrictions in its attempts to manage the COVID 19 outbreak. These are as follows:-

  • Public gatherings are limited to two people

  • The following people strongly advised to stay home

    • Everyone over the age of 70

    • People with Chronic illness over the age of 60

    • Indigenous people over 50

  • Strong advice that the only reason for anyone to leave home is for

    • Shopping for essentials

    • Medical care/compassionate needs

    • Exercise

    • Work/education if not possible to do this remotely

Given these new developments, we no longer have a choice but to suspend home visits by our Support Coordinators/MND advisors.

Whilst we are very disappointed to have to take this step, the health and wellbeing of our clients, their family members and our staff always has and always will be our priority. We will still be providing the same level of supports to our MND community, we will just need to do this over the phone or preferably via video call where the technology is available.

Our equipment hire service is still in full operation and we have no intention, or reason to believe, that this will change due to the essential nature of the equipment we provide.

For those that don’t currently use our service, please be aware that we offer a wide range of mobility equipment at lower cost than most other equipment providers. Usually this is on a weekly hire fee arrangement and for our clients over the age of 65 and those that do not have access to funding, equipment is provided for a one off fee that is very reasonable.

We have a range of Power wheelchairs, manual wheelchairs, shower chairs and commodes, hoists, electric beds, recliners, eye gaze devices and much more available.

If you wish to discuss our range, please call us on 07 3372 9004, look on our website or get in touch with your MND Advisor/Support Coordinator. You can also ask your Allied Health Professional to make a referral via our website.

MND Queensland recognises that feelign connected to others is vital during this time where social distancing and self-isolation are daily topics of conversation. Since we've had to cancel our face-to-face MND Support Groups, we are introducing Online MND Support Group Meetings where you can participate via Zoom using your computer and webcam, or by telephone. Click here for more information on these Online MND Support Group Meetings.

Given that the situation is changing so frequently, we will call on the day of the appointment to confirm that there are no changes to your circumstances and you still want to go ahead.

We are keen to ensure that our service is responsive to your needs and would very much appreciate some guidance from you all in terms of whether there are any specific supports that you are lacking at this time. Feel free to share your thoughts through our social media channels, in person or over the phone or by emailing us at
