PRO ART AWARENESS Schools 2009

Gail Headley - Tuesday, August 18, 2009

The Pro Art Awareness, designed to encourage young artists to "give art a go"

The Late Pro Hart was known as the people's artist he believed anybody could paint. Sadly Pro Hart and his family were affected by motor neurone disease and Pro Hart passed away from MND in March 2006.

The late Pro Harts wife Raylee and family endorsed the Queensland Initiative PRO ART AWARENESS in hope of inspiring young artists and helping raise awareness about motor neurone disease in our community.

Queensland Schools and children were asked to give their inspiration based upon the original Pro Hart "In the Scrub" painting. Over 42 Schools and children gave their inspiration resulting in over 2000 individual entires. Of the 2000 entries 40 were highly commended and found their artwork on exhibition with the Original "In the Scrub" at the Richard Randal Studio Mt Cootha Botanical Gardens from the 40 highly commended; four were given the accolade of having their artwork displayed and auctioned alongside "In the Scrub" at the PRO ART COCKTAIL PARTY and will be presented with an original Pro Hart Paintbrush Trophy in term 3.

It was truly inspiring to see at presentations to schools over this four month period our future generation now know about MND and share in the wonder - An incredible Australian Art Icon - Mr Kevin (Pro) Hart.

North Brisbane and Caboolture Support Group High Tea

Gail Headley - Tuesday, August 18, 2009

North Brisbane & Caboolture Support Group’s High Tea held on 20th June was a huge success.  “What a great day” or “When’s the next one” were just a couple of comments received.  Clinical Research Consultant, Nicole Hutchinson, from the Royal Brisbane & Womens’ Hospital MND Clinic gave an excellent talk on MND and some of her work at the Clinic.

The ladies from the Pine Rivers Uniting Church Craft & Quilting Group and our own June Hamilton put up an excellent display of quilts and craft work.  On the finance side, we made $1,632.00 which will be used for research & $148.00 in donations was received from the Craft Group and the Leisure Lovers. The members once again excelled themselves with the wonderful array of sandwiches, cakes, slices & biscuits – diets were thrown out for the day!
Special mention must go to the members of the Uniting Church for all their assistance and to the Redcliffe Special Needs Group for the loan of their teapots.
